Even thick leather belts tend to rub over time. If this occurs at a fold at the plaque, the belt is easily resuscitated.

In this review, the author shows in detail how to properly restore the belt, preserving its strength and beautiful appearance.

With a blade, spread the thread fastening the loop on the plaque. Cut the damaged part with it. Attach the cut piece to the belt, mark the hole and bend the edge. Bend also cut.

Using a hole punch of a suitable diameter and a mallet, punch holes from both edges of the mark, and then cut the middle with a blade.

It is better to use a metal ruler so that the cut is even. All operations should be carried out on the front side of the belt, so the edges will be more accurate.

The main stages of work

Try on a belt buckle. If the skin is thin enough, you can proceed to bonding. If it bends badly, and the bar hangs in the loop, you need to make the material thinner.

Using the blade, peel off a little of the inner layer of the skin where it will be folded in half.

Do not try to stitch the skin with a needle, you will spend a lot of effort on this. First you need to punch holes for the thread. The distance between the punctures themselves should be small so that the seam is stronger.

Insert a buckle into the loop and check that the skin bends well. You can now proceed to the next step.

Coat both seams liberally with glue suitable for leather products. You need to flash immediately after this, so the thread also has time to stick.

Use the clip to tighten the belt. Sew a seam with a strong synthetic thread, making two turns from the edges. Each stitch must be tightened carefully.

If the needle is tight, you can use pliers to facilitate the work. Cut and melt the thread from the edges with a lighter.

That's all, the work is over. The updated belt will serve you for a long time, but from the side no one will say that you have repaired it. Details in this video.
