When manually tapping, there is always the possibility that the tap can lead away. And in order to avoid this, you can use a simple universal guide. You can make it from a large washer and nuts.
The design of this device is very simple - everyone can make it. But to work, at least basic skills of electric arc welding will be required.
The main stages of work
First of all, you need to pick up five nuts of different diameters, and weld them to a large washer. Moreover, the diameter of the nuts depends on what size tap you plan to use.
After the nuts are welded to the washer, it will be necessary to drill through holes on the drilling machine. Then in the holes you need to cut the thread.
Here, in fact, all the work - the device is ready for use. Now, when you need to cut the thread in the holes drilled in thin metal, use the guide, and the tap will work correctly, without distortions.
If you cut the thread without a guide, then very often the tap deviates from the vertical axis, and the thread is a "curve". Look at the photo below.
