In scrap metal collection points, there are sometimes quite functional desktop machines for the workshop, which, after a small restoration and revision, can be used for their intended purpose. In this review, we will look at how you can restore the Soviet manual press at home.
An old Soviet-made hand press was found at the metal reception. Almost all the paint on it peeled off, so it will need to be removed. To do this, you can use a special chemical composition, which is called the exterminator of coatings from the metal surface.
This product is applied using a regular brush with a layer of 1-2 mm, and after about 30 minutes all the peeling paint is easily removed with a spatula. If you do not want to get involved with "chemistry", then you can use other methods to clean the surface - a grinder with a brush for metal or a sandblasting machine.
The main stages of work
Since the desktop manual press, in spite of its solid "age", turned out to be in working condition, no major repairs will be required - only cosmetic. After mechanical or chemical removal of paint from the outer surface, we disassemble the machine and clean the inside of the parts.
Using a die and a tap of a suitable diameter, it is advisable to “update” all the threaded parts of the fasteners so that nothing is stuck. It will also be necessary to make a square steel key, because the native one was missing.
At the last stage of restoration work, degrease the metal surface and paint with spray paint, after which we assemble the press. You can see the detailed restoration process in the video on the website.
