Garden swings can be made from building materials available to every summer resident. They will perfectly fit into the surrounding landscape of a summer cottage or a house adjoining territory.
Garden swings for houses and summer cottages can be wooden or metal, but in this case, the author decided that it would be nice to combine these two materials. It turned out simple, but with taste.
For the manufacture of garden swings, the following materials will be required: profile pipe 40 * 40 mm (3 pcs. 6 meters each), profile 25 * 25 mm (2 pcs. 6 meters each) and boards.
The first step is to cut the blanks for the manufacture of a metal frame. Using a grinder or on a band saw you need to cut:
- 4 blanks from a profile 40 * 40 mm 190 cm long;
- 2 blanks from the profile 40 * 40 mm, 138 cm long;
- 2 blanks from the profile 40 * 40 mm 82 cm long;
- 2 blanks from a profile 40 * 40 mm 72 cm long;
To make the frame of the bench itself, you will need three billets from a profile pipe 25 * 25 mm 150 cm long, four billets 80 cm each, six pieces 50 cm each and two pieces 20 cm each.
The main stages of work
The first step is to weld the two sides of the swing frame. In this case, the lower part of the sidewalls has a trapezoidal shape. The angles of inclination of the profile pipe can be arbitrary.
At the next stage, the sidewalls are interconnected by two crossbars in the lower and upper parts. The author welds hinges to the upper crossbar, to which carbines fasten.
After that, the author proceeds to manufacture the frame for the bench. First you need to weld the lower part (seat), then the back.
Next, it will be necessary to weld the armrests and hinges so that a steel chain can be passed through them. The author makes the loops themselves from a round bar.
Well, then it remains only to clean the metal from rust and paint. The author uses a paint with a hammer effect. At the ends of the profile pipes, you need to install plastic plugs.
We trim the seat and back of the bench with boards 80 mm wide and 2.5 mm thick. In total, 12 boards with a length of 150 cm will be required. They can be painted or varnished. And then we hang the bench at the right height on a metal chain.
