If you think that a flower pot on a windowsill or stand is too commonplace, then we offer you the original idea of how to make a “smart hanger” with your own hands.
To do this, you need a drive wheel with a connecting rod from an old sewing machine, spring hand scales (steelyard), a metal weight of about 2 kg, as well as two pieces of board from a wooden pallet.
And first of all, it is necessary to connect two boards from the pallet using 2 metal plates, securing them to the screws. You will also need to make a small depression so that you can hang the resulting shield on the wall.
The main stages of work
Next, on the shield, it will be necessary to fix the drive wheel from the sewing machine along with the connecting rod. The author places it at the top of the shield.
Spring scales are attached to the connecting rod, the end of which is fixed to a bolt screwed into the shield (in the lower part). Thus, when the drive wheel rotates, the balance spring in the balance will stretch.
Then, on one side of the wheel, the author fastens a load weighing about 2 kg, and on the other a flower pot, which should weigh about the same. If necessary, you can weight the pot by pouring fine gravel into it.
When watering, the weight of the pot increases. The result is an advantage, the scales are stretched. When the earth dries, the spring returns to its original position - this is a signal that it is time to water again.
